The Freddie Fu Cycling Team was formed in 1998 thanks to the generous support of Dr. Freddie Fu. Dr. Fu is a world renowned orthopedic surgeon, and the vision behind the UPMC Sports Medicine Center, renamed as UPMC Freddie Fu Sports Medicine Center in 2018. In addition to the team, Dr. Fu's contributions to the sport of cycling include sponsorship of top area cyclists, financial support of racing, and hosting cycling related clinics. In 1999 he brought 5 time Tour De France Champion Miguel Indurain to Pittsburgh for a celebration of cycling.
The Freddie Fu Cycling Team is registered with USA Cycling and is a member of the Allegheny Cycling Association (ACA) and Pennsylvania Cycling Association (PCA). The team is centered with a philosophy of structured training, teamwork, and the keen focus to read a race and react as a team. This straightforward approach has contributed to our success as a regionally competitive Men's team in the Mid-Atlantic region with more than 300 podium finishes in regional, and national and state championships since 1998. Our success is equally a tribute to the support of our sponsors. We're committed to represent them professionally and to be the best ambassadors in the sport. All members of the Freddie Fu Cycling Team balance work and family with their passion for the sport of cycling.
Team members are also active within the cycling community as race organizers, board members of the ACA and PCA, ACA Web master, and ride leaders.
